When mowing your lawn remember:
As a general rule, mow your lawn often enough thatGrass.wmf (2328 bytes)
not  more than 1/4 to 1/3 of the grass blade is removed at one time.
The most damaging mowing practice is a sudden reduction in height.
Always keep the mower blade sharpened.
Reverse your mowing patterns with each mowing.

This is a general list of cutting heights (see chart). It may be necessary
to mow slightly lower/higher for your particular area and weather conditions.
During periods of summer heat and other stressful conditions,

Grass.wmf (2328 bytes)
It is a good idea to raise the height of the cut slightly.
This practice is helpful in reducing stress to cool season grasses.
As fall approaches, raise the mowing height of warm season
grasses. This practice will help the grass survive the winter months.

When in doubt check with your county extension serviceGrass.wmf (2328 bytes)
or a local garden center or nursery for mowing
practices in your area..
